Bartlett Lake is a man-made reservoir, formed by damming Verde River in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is located only 48 miles from downtown Phoenix and 20 miles east of Carefree, has a boatable surface area of 2,815 acres, which is more than Canyon Lake and Saguaro Lake, togther. The water comes from the pristine waters of the Verde River. Upper Bartlett Lake, Rattlesnake and South Cove recreation areas offer camping with trailers, picnicking, fishing that are open year-round. The lake provides a wide clean sandy beach for the day use onl;y.
    
 
In this part of the Tonto National Forest, you can see mule deer, bald eagles, javelina, coyotes, and many indigenous desert plants, including the majestic saguaro, mesquite trees and blooming ocotillo. The campground has had many improvements, such as handicap accessibility, and safety features for safe, enjoyable recreation including hiking, boating, water skiing and fishing. Boat rentals are available on the lake for those who do not have their own boats. Trailers longer than 16 feet are not recommended. The walk in either direction along the waters edge leads to quiet, private coves with nice rock formations including many dykes and saguaro right next to the water.
