General Description of Beach: Pillar Creek is 10 minutes of paved road from Kodiak City, and a short drive in a 4x4 or walk from the Monashka bay road. The creek runs from Pillar Mountain. Small salmon runs are found as well as cliffs and trails.

Surf, Tides, Climate, Water Temp: Kodiak archipelago is a wet climate, always be ready for rain. Kodiak is also known as the emerald isle, is extremely lush. Water is always cold, which is very refreshing when out in the sun all day! Even at high tide there is forest to be enjoyed. Average temperature is 55.2 degrees in August.

Beach Activities: Pillar creek is a great spot for family camping. There are trails to explore and the water temperature in the river allows for swimming.

Scenery and Wildlife: Watch the fishing boats on the horizon or check the cliffs for tide pools. If you venture some hiking you will find birds to view. Sometimes bears are spotted nearby for salmon feasting.

Places to Stay and Eat: Camping is popular at Pillar creek although it is inaccessible for motor homes. Otherwise there are several hotels that provide restaurants and local bed and breakfasts.

Local Flavor, Crowds, well known local events: Pillar creek is wonderful for quality family time. On very hot weekend days you may find a lot of locals come out as well.

Best times to visit: Kodiak Island is beautiful and green because of the rain! August is the dryer month of the year!
