The Chena River State Recreation Area is located near the city of Fairbanks in the northern part of the great state of Alaska, and offers a wide variety of winter activities. Some of the more popular activities enjoyed in the Chena River State Recreation Area
include snowmobiling, skijoring and dog mushing (local dog mushers take advantage of the area’s terrain to train for the 1000-mile Yukon Quest, the Iditarod and local dog sled races). This recreation area is also a perfect spot for cross-country skiing, and many of the trails in Chena River State Recreation Area are groomed throughout the winter months specifically for cross-country Alaska skiing.
Visitors who wish to spend the night will find 6 cabins available to rent throughout the Chena River State Recreation Area. There area 2 cabins located off the Chena Hot Springs road, and another 4 within a day’s ski or snowmobile ride.
