  • Alaska Natural Areas

Alaska, the largest state of United States is home to an enormous number of natural areas that form a part of a worldwide network of natural areas. These natural areas are special designated areas for the purpose of research & education. Alaska natural areas have been established for the purpose of typifying certain important forest, grassland, aquatic, alpine, geological & other parallel environments. Meant to cause minimum human disturbance, the Alaska natural areas hold abundant scientific & ecological values.

  • Bering Land Bridge National Preserve
One of the remotest national park areas in United States, the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve is located on the Seward Peninsula. The National Preserve protects what is left of the Bering Land Bridge that once connected North America & Asia over 13,000 years ago. Though the preserve was designated a National Preserve in 1980, it was originally established as Bering Land Bridge National Monument on December 1, 1978. Since there are no roads to the preserve, access is through snowmobiles, dog sleds & ski planes during winter and through boats or bush planes during summers. The preserve is home to several significant pre-historical & geological sites, the Serpentine Hot Springs being the most visited location.

  • Gates of the Arctic National Preserve
The northernmost national park in United States, Gates of the Arctic National Park & Preserve is the second largest park in US. The park was initially established as a US National Monument in 1978 before being designated a national park & preserve in 1980. Nearly 29,322 km² of the park is preserved as a wilderness area. A striking feature of the park is the ten small communities of about 1,500 people residing in the park’s “resident subsistence zone”. While there are no established trails or roads in the park, the Dalton Highway is within 5 miles of the park’s eastern boundary. In addition to the wild tundra & rolling valleys, the park is home to a rich diversity of fauna including, black bears, barren-ground grizzlies, wolves & caribou.
