Tolovana Hot Springs

Alaska Home | Alaska Sitemap
A band of hot springs emerges along a south facing hillside about 1400 feet below the peak of Tolovana Hot Springs Dome some 600 feet above the floor of the Tolovana River valley. The springs form the headwaters of a small creek

These springs have a temperature of 125-145 degrees Fahrenheit. The water is low in sulphates, so there is no sulfur odor, but is somewhat saline, about 4% as salty as seawater.

The cabins are located downhill from (and out of sight of) the springs, on the hillside above the creek. Trails lead from the springs to the top of Tolovana Hot Springs Dome and to the Tolovana River Valley. Wildlife seen near Tolovana Hot Springs includes moose, black bear, fox, marten, porcupine, grouse, goshawk and, on summer evenings, bats. The valley below is also home to wolves, eagles, swans, loons, and many other waterfowl. Grizzly bear.
