Chugach / Russian River

This campground is all about fishing for salmon and is known for its "Combat Fishing Zone." Located between the Kenai and Russian Rivers, it has five loops (Red Salmon, Steelhead, Silver Salmon, Rainbow Trout and King Salmon) in a stand of mixed trees including spruce and Aspen. The campsites take advantage of the rolling landscape providing good privacy and great views of the surrounding area. King Salmon, Silver Salmon and Steelhead loops overlook the Denai River, while Rainbow Trout and Red Salmon loops are above the Russian River. The campground has lots of double campsites. King Salmon loop is closest to the confluence of the Russian and Kenai rivers and stretches along a section of the Russian River where the salmon "rest" before continuing their run up river. Interpretive programs are offered on alternating weekends. Nearby Givens Lodge as well as businesses in Cooper Landing offer a variety of services including gas, limited groceries, cook's night out, and outfitters.
