Tongass / Last Chance

Located in the Ward Lake Recreation Area, 7 miles north of downtown Ketchikan, approximately 4 miles north of the State ferry terminal. Campground is immediately adjacent to Ward Lake. It is surrounded by an old-growth temperate rainforest comprised primarily of western hemlock and Sitka spruce. The Ward Lake Recreation Area boasts several trails - one of which traverses the circumference of Ward Lake and passes through the campground - as well as a large day-use complex with picnic sites and shelters. There is easy access to freshwater fishing, wildlife viewing, and scenery. Non-motorized boating, such as canoeing or kayaking, is permitted on Ward Lake (no boat launch, but beach at day use area is suitable).
