Beaches are definitely not what you look for when visiting Alaska, the biggest state of United States. However, one cannot ignore beaches like Buskin Beach on Kodiak Island and Monashka Bay Beach near the city of Kodiac that have unique experiences to offer the adventurous traveler. Alaska Beaches Buskin Beach Monashka Bay Beach
Buskin River empties onto a stretch of beach and grass. There are several trails in the area in addition to the Buskin Beach, Jewel Beach and Boyscout Lake. Located close to the airport, the beach is extremely popular with those who do not wish to rent a car. Buskin River provides the fisherman's delight with combat fishing available during the peak months. The place is also known for its bountiful wildlife including birds, fox & squirrels to name a few. Those who wish to plan a stay can lodge at the pet-friendly Buskin River Inn & eat at the Eagles Nest Restaurant located inside.
Buskin Beach
Monashka Bay Beach also known as Whitesands for its rare pale sands is just 15 minutes drive north of Kodiak City. Nestled between the mountains & cliffs, soft grasses spill out onto the beach. A salmon stream runs through to the beach providing fresh water for people and wildlife. Monashka Bay Beach offers a host of activities including hiking, camping, picnicking and fishing. The nearby trails used for hiking are maintained by Kodiak state parks & recreation. The mountains & cliffs overlook breathtaking views while also providing shelter from common winds. Camping right on the beach is wonderful if you are prepared for it or else you may lodge into one of the hotels nearby.
