Alaska City Parks Fairbanks' Golden Heart Park Shuyak Island State Park Potlatch Park
This is a nationally recognized botanical garden and a member of a national network of educational and research institutions dedicated to plant culture and conservation. The GBG is one of the five botanical gardens in the nation to be a satellite test garden for the International Hardy Fern Foundation. Located on the campus of the University of Fairbanks the park grows everything from 50-pound cabbages to pansies the size of small children. There are also dwarf species, specially adapted to the harsh Arctic climate. This peaceful sanctuary boasts an impressive collection of Alaska's 3,000 varieties of flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Due to its northern location, portions of the garden have permafrost or permanently frozen soil.
