Curious Polar Bear at The Alaska Zoo
The Alaska Zoo is located in Anchorage, Alaska, and is one of the most popular attractions in the state. The zoo specializes in education, research, wildlife conservation, and the rehabilitation of or found, orphaned or injured animals. It is one of the most popular things to do in Anchorage and as such draws nearly 200,000 visitors every year.

Nearly 100 birds and mammals of some 40 species make the Alaska Zoo their home. Alaska wildlife is the focus of the zoo’s exhibits but many other kinds of animals are found there as well, including Amur tigers, Bactrian camels, yaks and elephants.

The zoo attracted some negative attention in 1994 when Binky, a polar bear who was a resident at that time, injured several visitors who entered his enclosure. The current polar bear exhibit is human-proof.
