Alaska Botanical Garden

Arctic horticulture and native plants are featured in Alaska Botanical Garden, a 110-acre spruce and birch woodland in Anchorage, Alaska. This excellent Anchorage attraction in located near Campbell Creek (home to a Chinook king salmon summer run), Far North Bicentennial Park, and Chugach State Park.

From May through September (and October) visitors to the Alaska Botanical Garden come to learn about the summer arctic growing season and flora native to south-central Alaska. With over 1,100 species of hardy perennials, and 150 native plant species, there are plenty of Alaskan things to see, including a formal herb garden, an alpine rock garden and a wildflower walk.

Anchorage hiking opportunities at the Alaska Botanical Garden include the 1.1 mile Lowenfels Family Nature Trail is an interpretive walk through spruce and birch forest, down to the north fork of Campbell Creek. Here sightseers can see the effects of glacial activity and views of the Chugach Mountain Range.
