Bessemer

Bessemer was incorporated in 1884 as copper mining started growing throughout the Gogebic Range. The town was made county seat in 1887. The town then grew as many stores, motels, gas stations, and restaurants were built. The town declined as the mining business declined, but it has since generally stabilized. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.5 square miles 14 square kilometer, all land.
